We're updating our Account Terms and Conditions to reflect new operating processes and procedures, simplify the structure, and better reflect current regulatory, operational and safer gambling requirements.
Most customers will continue to use their account in the same way as they do today. However, key changes, as summarised below, are being introduced.
These changes will take effect on 30 October 2026.
Per clause 43.4 of our current Account Terms and Conditions, if you are an Unrestricted Member and consider that any change is detrimental to you, you may close your Account during the 30-day notice period without any fees or charges. You can find out more information about closing your Account here.
The most significant changes are:
a new prohibited activities and enforcement framework;
express manifest error provisions;
new chargeback and deposit dispute obligations;
removal of overseas-use exceptions, requiring customers to be physically located in Australia when using their account;
updated safer gambling and self-exclusion provisions;
new international and national pooling provisions, reflecting already operational betting rules;
new residency verification requirements;
enhanced identity verification processes; and
new withdrawal restrictions and set-off rights.
Other updates reorganise, simplify or clarify existing terms rather than introducing material new ones.
See summary table below for more detail.
Key Change | Detail | What This Means for You |
Clearer Rules About Prohibited Activities | The new terms consolidate prohibited activities and TAB's enforcement powers into a dedicated section. Prohibited conduct includes providing inaccurate or misleading information, allowing another person to use your Account, using third-party payment methods, accessing your account from outside Australia, providing incorrect residency information, misusing promotions or account features, and engaging in unfair, unlawful or prohibited betting activity. | The activities that we prohibit are now consolidated in one, easy to identify section of the Account Terms and Conditions, which will assist you to better understand our requirements when you use your Account. The consequences of undertaking a prohibited activity are now also clearer. Depending on the prohibited activity that is committed and what is reasonable and appropriate in the specific circumstances, TAB may request information, impose account restrictions, suspend or close your account, cancel bets, or take other action required by law or regulation. |
New Manifest Error Provisions | The new terms expressly address obvious or manifest errors, including incorrect odds or prices, incorrect event or participant information, duplicated markets, markets that should have been suspended or closed, settlement or payout errors, and incorrect Cash Out offers. | TAB now has express rights in certain circumstances to void affected bets or Cash Out transactions, correct payouts, recalculate outcomes or otherwise adjust affected transactions where an obvious error has occurred. |
New Chargeback and Deposit Dispute Rules | The new terms expressly address chargebacks and reversed deposits. Under the new terms, TAB may adjust your Account balance to reflect any refunded amounts and recover losses or costs arising from them. | If you dispute or reverse a deposit through your bank or payment provider, TAB may temporarily suspend your account while investigating and may adjust your account balance accordingly. |
Customers Must Be Located in Australia When Using Their Account | The new terms clarify that customers may only access and use their TAB account while physically located in Australia. Under the current terms, a customer could access and use their TAB account with TAB’s consent. This exception allowing overseas use has been removed. | You must be physically present in Australia whenever you access or use your TAB Account. |
Updated Safer Gambling and Self-Exclusion Provisions | The new terms include an expanded safer gambling framework. This includes more information about available safer gambling tools, TAB's ability to contact customers regarding gambling activity, the ability to impose restrictions or account closures, and updated self-exclusion provisions. | The terms provide greater transparency about how TAB may support customers experiencing gambling-related harm and meet its safer gambling obligations, including the actions customers must or must not take to enable TAB to do so. |
International and National Pool Betting Provisions | In line with certain already operational betting rules, the new terms expressly address the circumstance where TAB participates in international or national betting pools and operational or system issues occur. If a host operator cannot declare a dividend, bets may be retained in a national or local pool (as applicable). | In certain circumstances, your dividend may be declared from a national or local pool notwithstanding that the host was originally planned to be an international or national one. This could result in different liquidity levels and dividend outcomes compared with the original pool. |
State of Residence Verification and Account Management | The new terms allow TAB to request information or documents to verify your State or Territory of residence and, in certain circumstances, close an account and open a replacement account with a different TAB licence holder. Account balances, preferences and relevant account settings may be transferred to the replacement Account. | You must keep your residential details accurate and up to date and may be asked to verify your place of residence. If your State of Residence changes, your Account may need to be transferred to another TAB licensed entity.
|
Enhanced Identity Verification Requirements | The new terms introduce a new "Restricted Member" framework and expand TAB's ability to conduct ongoing identity verification, source of funds and source of wealth checks where required for regulatory, security or compliance purposes.
| If TAB cannot complete required verification or compliance reviews, your account may be restricted, including preventing deposits, withdrawals and betting activity until the required information is provided.
|
New Withdrawal Restrictions | The new terms provide TAB with broader rights to delay, restrict or refuse withdrawals where reasonably necessary to investigate suspected fraud, scams, suspicious transactions, account compromise, breaches of the Terms and Conditions, anti-money laundering requirements or legal obligations
| While most withdrawals will continue to be processed as normal, there may be situations where TAB is required to undertake additional checks before releasing funds. |
Technology and Location Restrictions | The new terms prohibit using TAB data for artificial intelligence or machine learning purposes, data mining, scraping or automated extraction of information, and using VPNs or similar tools to disguise your location. | The rules more clearly define acceptable use of TAB's products, services and digital platforms. Breaching these restrictions may result in account action being taken by TAB. |
New Set-Off Rights | The new terms introduce a dedicated set-off provision that allows TAB, in certain circumstances, to offset amounts owed by a customer against funds held in their TAB Account or other accounts held with a TAB licence holder or related entity. This may apply to chargebacks, mistaken credits, fees, debts, voided bets, fraud or Account adjustments.
| Where money is owing to TAB, amounts may be deducted from available account balances instead of being recovered separately. TAB will take reasonable steps to notify customers before exercising these rights where lawful to do so. |
