6. How are corners counted?
‘Normal time’ refers to the first 90 minutes of the match plus stoppage/injury time – it excludes ‘extra time’ and penalty shootouts, which take place when a knock-out match (e.g., a World Cup Quarter Final or an FA Cup Final) is tied at the end of normal time.
All football/soccer markets (except Winner of Tie/To Qualify and Method of Progression/Method of Result) are settled at the end of ‘normal time’ unless otherwise specified on the match page.
The most common ‘normal time’ bet types are:
- Result
- Total Goals Over/Under
- Correct Score
- Double Chance
- Both Teams To Score.
The settlement of progression-based bet types (which are specific to knockout matches) include extra time and penalty shootouts as required. Examples of these bet types include:
- Winner of Tie
- To Qualify
- To Lift Trophy
- Method of Progression/Method of Result
- Post ‘normal time’ specific markets such as Extra Time Result, Extra Time Correct Score, and Penalty shootout winner.
1st or Next Goalscorer – If an ‘own goal’ is not offered in the market and the first or next goal is an ‘own goal’, this market is settled based on the goal following. If a player has not taken part in the match up to the 1st or next relevant goal, bets on that player are refunded.
To score a goal or goals (e.g., anytime scorer, 2+ goals etc) – Unless otherwise stated, bets on a player that takes no part in the match are refunded. If a player takes part in the match (including as a substitute), bets stand.
Please note: some player-specific markets indicate that players are required to ‘start’ (i.e., be in the starting 11) for bets to be valid. If the relevant player or players in the market do not start, bets are refunded (e.g., Most Goals Head to Head/Player to Score in Both Halves bets for the relevant player(s)).
Only active players taking part in the match count. Any coaching/support staff or off-field players (e.g., substitutes not yet actively taking part in the match or players who have already been substituted out) that receive cards do not count towards card/bookings-related markets.
Only corners actually taken count. For example, if the ball goes out of play where a corner would normally follow – but the referee calls half-time or full-time before the corner is actually taken – the corner has not taken place and is not counted in corner betting markets.
