Key changes to the totalisator commission rates (take out rates)

The Totalisator Commission TAB takes when hosting pools is now consistent for each of the three standalone pools (i.e. TAB NSW, TAB VIC, TAB QLD) and National Tote pools. See below for rates.

Key changes to the betting rules

The key changes to the betting rules centre around changes required to enable implementation of a National Tote. National Tote pools will be progressively adopted in the near future with all domestic race meetings expected to have adopted the National Tote by early October.

Key changes made on 22 September 2026:

1. Introduction of a National Tote whereby each of the three current totes, being TAB NSW, TAB VIC, TAB QLD pools are able to pool into one national pool (but are not mandated to do so) on domestic races. Any of these jurisdictions may host the National Tote pool.
   
   
2. The betting rules of the host of the National Tote will apply (to the extent they determine the calculation of dividends (including totalisator commission rates and jackpots), but otherwise the betting rules of the local tote (i.e. being TAB NSW, TAB VIC, TAB QLD) apply.
   
   
3. At the commencement of National Tote, TAB VIC will be the host of the National Tote and TAB's Victorian systems are responsible for the collection of bets from all jurisdictions, and the calculation of dividends using this betting information. This ensures one dividend is provided to all Australian customers, regardless of which TAB jurisdiction you place your bet with.
   
   
4. If connection to National Pool is lost and a National Pool dividend cannot be declared, the local pools (i.e. TAB NSW, TAB VIC, TAB QLD) revert to standalone pools and calculate dividends locally.
   
   
5. If a race isn't a National Tote race at the commencement of betting, but then becomes a National Tote race, all investments can be included in the National Tote pool. This is because when there is a National Tote on a race, there will be no stand along or local tote pool as well.
   
   
6. Jackpots which are generated through National Tote will only be used on National Tote races. In the rare case where TAB has to drop back to stand alone local pools (i.e. TAB NSW, TAB VIC, TAB QLD) due to technical or operational issues, no jackpots will be distributed on pools for that race. These jackpots will be retained and distributed on another National Tote race meeting determined by TAB. This ensures fairness to all customers with National Tote jackpots only distributed on National Tote races.
   
   
7. For BIG6 races, the substitute will be the selection with the greatest amount of money invested on it on that same race in TAB's win totalisator pool. This aligns the BIG6 substitute rule with the Quaddie substitute rule.
   
   
8. For QLD, TAS, SA and NT customers, the minimum dividend paid will increase to align with the VIC, NSW and ACT minimum dividend, being $1.04.
